Dr. Gordon Thompson has had a distinguished career in health management, administration, policy and program development, and consulting. Previous management experience includes Associate Dean at the University of Toronto, Dean at the University of Alberta and Chief Executive Officer for the Alberta Dental Association and College.
In health policy development, Gordon was a founding representative and a Past Chair of the Alberta Federation of Regulated Health Professions, a member of the North York Board of Health and Director of Alberta Dental Health Services. He is one of seven Canadian Dentists to receive the Canadian Dental Association Medal of Honour.
Dr. Thompson has a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree, a Masters in Preventive Dentistry and a PhD in Medical Epidemiology. Professor Emeritus Thompson has published more than one hundred refereed research papers. He is a Past President of the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry, Dentistry Canada Fund, the Canadian Dental Regulatory Authorities Federation and was a consultant for the World Health Organization.
Professor Thompson has been involved with international humanitarian programs. In partnership with the Canadian-Ecuadorian Dental Association, Dr. Thompson was able to obtain mobile dental clinics for rural areas in Ecuador, which provide dental services to those who do not normally have access.
